Having a heck of a time with an oil leak. Front main seal seeps just enough to be vexing. Oil film builds up on right side of windscreen bad enough to require washing every couple of hours. Replaced it once and am willing to do it again if I can figure out what to do differently this time to make it stay sealed. I applied oil to the seal (or crank) when I installed it. Anybody know of any other tricks to helping these seals stay sealed?

Ralph, how is the facing on the flange the seal rides on?  Also, there is a short thread on oil seeping past the oil stop on the front of the crank.  The owner was able to seal it with a bit of RTV if I'm recalling correctly.  I had the same issue I believe on my old crank and attempted to resolve initially by changing the front seal (twice) to no real succes.  Other issues forced me to do a rebuild and I had a new crank installed as well.  130 plus hrs and no leaks (fingers crossed and knocking on wood)

Good luck with it...let us know what eventually works!

Dave

Look up "reverse Helix" as applied to crankshaft seals....

A possible solution that worked on my old Lyc.
