Hey folks, another wiring question.

I was reading the comment in my SL-30 manual and the MGL manual on running the Coax cables what I see for "Cable separation" is "Don not bundle and leave some separation. I indrstand dont bundle but what constitutes separation? 1 Inch? 2 Inches? a foot?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

I also read to keep separation from the ELT. Could someone respond on that as well?

Hi Rich,

As I recall, my ELT installation manual recommended about 36" separation from other antennas. As the not-so-funny observation goes, there's about a 50/50 chance as to which side of the aircraft will be "up" in a catastrophic crash, so I put the transponder antenna on the belly of the rear fuselage and the com antenna on the top of the rear fuselage. Of course, that puts the antenna cables several feet apart.  My Sandia STX 165R remote transponder installation instructions said to install the antenna a minimum of 36" from the remote unit so as to avoid interference - I mounted the remote under the pilot's seat and the antenna under the passenger's seat.

The closest distance between any of my antenna cables is about a foot or so between the transponder cable where it joins the antenna and the com cable running along the sidewall of the aircraft. I can't detect any problems with the com and the transponder works fine!
