Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
So, was sitting at the local fling club this evening and got into a discussion about that leading edge device that is on the 701 / 750. I kept calling it a slat but was quickly corrected by the elderly, way more experienced pilots that it was in fact a SLOT.
So....just thought I would bring up for discussion.
Cheers

Slat. Leading edge slat, to be exact. The slot is actually the gap created between the slat and the wing. It can be referred to either way, but slat is the more common term, and is what Zenith uses.
Typically a "slat" is referred to as movable. When it is "fixed", it is normally referred to as a "slot".
While Mel is technically correct, just go to a gathering of Zenith flyers and start calling them "slots" and see how many times you are corrected to call them "slats!" So, as they say, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do!" LOL!

Now that the question has been definitively answered and apologies for creeping the thread a bit, I'm just waiting for a Zenith builder to install some pivoting slats, err ... slots, whatever, like these carbon fiber ones:
Got more info on those?
That pic was from a Google search and I think they were mounted on a 172 of all things! However, "Badass Power Sports" has a page on their site for "Carbon Concepts" carbon fiber parts including leading edge slats. (Yep, they call them slats! LOL!) Not much more information there, but it does says they do "custom designs for your aircraft."

I once got to ride in a 701 that had Pegastol wings. They had movable or retractable slats.
When you take them off regardless of what you call them. If anybody asks what the brackets are for, tell them they are Sonic Boom Deflectors.
