Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
I've flown my STOL 750 to Sun 'n Fun several times and camped in Homebuilt Camping - which I highly recommend! However, this year a good friend and neighbor wants me to go with him and dry-camp at Sun 'n Fun in his tag-a-long travel trailer (sadly, he had to hang up the flying about a year ago).
We'll only be there a couple of nights (probably Wed/Thurs), so no online reservations are available for that according to the Sun 'n Fun website.
Just wondered if some of you who have done this or are local to Sun 'n Fun can advise me - is the camping usually available mid-week or is it typically sold out and no spaces available? Any other relevant tips appreciated, also!
Looking forward to seeing you at Sun 'n Fun!

John,
I see no one has responded yet, so I will give it a go. I am certainly no Sun-N-Fun expert and I have not gone in about 5 years now. Every time I went, I camped out. In my experience, it was never full to the extent they were turning away any arriving campers. But you might need to drive around a bit looking for an open spot, not unlike what I've experienced at Oshkosh. If you know anyone else going and getting there before you, they can probably buy you a spot and mark it off for you next to them. The early arrivals will definitely get the closer spots and you will be relegated to what I think they called the cow pasture. Bring a flashlight if you plan to make evening trips to the porta-johns so you can avoid the 'land mines' that the recently displaced cow residents left for you. The walk to the flight line was not bad. I always took a scenic route that had a path through the woods and swamp and ended up at the back of the exhibitors area.
Have fun,
Dave
Thanks for the info, Dave. Living on a farm, I'm all too familiar with "land mines" the cows distribute! LOL! In fact, one time the cows got out onto the airstrip and left some "mines," and I hit one with my 206's left wheel - the prop swirl distributed it all along the left side of the fuselage - what a mess! Learned my lesson and now if they get out, I definitely do a FOD walk! Ha!
