Heat gun has no effect on the glue - so what's the answer for removing the labels and the left on glue from your new piece of metal?

MEK or rubbing alcohol. Soak the label, let it set for a couple minutes and they'll peel right off
I soaked a paper towel or rag with MEK and set it on the label for a few minutes.

I use a phenolic chisel with a sharp edge..It gets under the label and scrapes it right off dry, then some mek for the residue.. The phenolic doesn't mar the surface..   Cheers,, Tom

acrylic thinner (for thinning zinc chromate). squirt a bit on, wait a couple seconds and it slides right off with putty knife or any edged thing. a little more thinner to wipe off residue and you are good to go.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys and girl!

goo be gone from ACE

Just plain water for a minute works just fine, scrape off with fingernail and remove any residual glue with a little acetone.  Quick and easy.     Cheers,,, Lynn       Once upon a time, Croc 9

I got a can or two of Brake Cleaner from any auto parts store. Spray on a little bit to wet the label, in a couple of minutes, it wipes right off.

Lacquer thinner - just saturate the label, wait a minute and it peels right off.  Also removes any marks you make with sharpie pens.

I used lacquer thinner also for all my parts. Worked great. Only other thing tried was alcohol which doesn't do nearly as well.

Just wipe with Lacquer thinners
