Corvair Engine

Posted on August 18, 2010 at 8:14pm 3 Comments

Fellow Corvair Engine Owners: I have been trying to install the correct spark plugs in my Corvair Engine. We are in the process of flying off the 40 hours in our newly completed 650. William Wynne says that the correct plugs should be R44C's. We have been unable to find a source for this plug model number. So my question to the group is: Are you flying with R44C's, and, if not, what plug model number are you using and where did you find them? The present plugs in the engine are Champion L92YC.… Continue

Hi Shayne,

I recently picked up a second battery for my plane as we discussed last September in Mexico. I was curious if you have the specification for the diode you used? After checking Mark Langford's site I see it only mentioned 25 amps but did he did not describe a part number. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Regards,

Dave

I was down and visited with you all - and you were very accomidating on showing me your beautiful CH-650, You even let me set in the left seat. Phyllis run the Corvair engine. I was very impressed. I have just bought from Zenith a Quick Build CH-601 XL and trucked it down to my hangar #9 at 18MO near Ozark, MO. I'm in the process of selling my Long-EZ.
How is your knee doing? How is your flight test progressing?

Thank you, Shayne. I am amazed so few builders ever consider do this. Good luck with your project. Mine is only 40% done, just getting ready to build the wings. At least I didn't have to tear mine apart.

BTW, did you paint your plane yourself? If so, what did you use? Did you paint before or after assembly?

Thanks, again.

Shayne,

In looking at some of your photos, it appears that you added some heat shield material to the engine side of the firewall. I just completed the firewall on my CH 650. Can you tell me what material you used and where you got it?

Thanks,

Jim Snyder
