After the QSP open house and dinner with friends, I took a quick 118 mile flight out to the Pacific Ocean to catch the sunset.

Beautiful picture - I love flying right before the stroke of Civil Twilight.  Loved the west coast sunsets when I used to live in Northern California.

Home by Civil Twilight?  Absolutely!  My airplane turns into a pumpkin at the stroke of civil twilight.  I was once flying over Canyonlands National Park when civil twilight arrived and my airplane plunged straight into the Colorado River.  Wow, was that ever exciting.  I’ll never do that again.

But of course the Pacific Ocean is only about a 15 minute flight from our home base KSTS so getting the plane on the ground before the stroke of civil twilight is easy Mr. Bob Archibald, my flight instructor extraordinaire.  I think maybe I should solute when I say that…

And back home before the end of Civil Twilight?

West Coast sunset aficionados  look for and occasionally see the "Green Flash"

awesome....this is a great picture, but having been there myself, I know it just is not the same.  I hope you had someone with you to share the flight with.
