We Flanged a piece of metal and flush rivited it to the Channel. We then drilled the extension using the predrilled pilot holes. You will also discover the seat parts are done correctlt for the 650. It seeems they are still sending 601 parts out.

You know what is funny? I am at the same spot and I have the same issue with the rivet holes not lining up with the upright channel. What was your solution? Two lines of rivets?
