The "L" used to hold the main gear spring was made extra long, because I knew it was the ideal location for mounting ski limit cables and bungee. 4130 shackles attach to AN44-5A eye bolts.

Doug

I used the eye bolts because I did not want the steel shackle bolts working on the aluminum "L". This way its steel working on steel. Eye bolts are expensive and add to the parts count, and I originally started to building that way. There is no reason not to just shackle to the "L" other than the steel working on the hole in the aluminum "L". When I remove the ski I just un-bolt the eye bolt and leave the shackles attached. Removing or installing the skis is about a 30 minute one man job once the initial install is done.

Bob, looking at this picture of the upper main gear cable, is there a reason that you chose eye bolts instead of simply bolting the shackle to the "L"?  From a geometry standpoint that would seem to provide a stronger attachment.  Additionally, it would lower parts count.  Of course, I have no idea of the actual loads on this setup.
