I was able to get "a spare bungee" from fellow CH750 builder Conrad Watters. His bungee failed last week and a conversation with him made me play closer attention to the bungee on my inspection. Replacing a bungee is a simple 2 hr task and the bungee costs $28 + $15 shipping.

Go to http://www.macsmachine.com/
Items for sale section and buy his ring to attach to your nose gear tube to prevent the damage noted. Get the tow bar he sells to go with the ring clamp. Excellent stuff.

The left to right steering of the rudder when flying gets loose as the bungee gets weaker. Older kits may not have a ring welded of 1/8 rod around the lower nose gear tube. That ring keeps the prop out of the dirt and top of the nose gear from going through the upper engine cowling. Changing it would be cheaper than the damage or getting stranded off or away from home base.
Hi Bob,
That's not so easy if the engine is backed up to the firewall. Space is tight between the engine mount and firewall there.
I don't think I could get the tools to extend the bungee and keep it there. What is the trick ?
How do you figure the bungee has to be replaced other than when it fails ?
Also, if it fails on landing, won't the nosewheel retract to the point where the propeller could contact the ground ???
My bungee is 12 years old but just started to be used (last year) is this a concern ? Should I change it preventively ?
Thanks for your insights.
