Hey Julio...

Is this the new AC-51 Redrive?

How is the engine coming? Are you using the AC-51 Redrive now... is it available?

When acquire the redrive package... what comes with it? Does the price include the starter, flywheel, belts pulleys etc?

You say it uses common belts... do you mean it uses the Gates HTD cog belts?

It looks like a very well done unit... I like it very much and would look good on a Type 4 VW engine! How much weight does it add to the engine?

Well have a good weekend... and keep in touch,
Ron

Hy Julio...

Here are some photos:

The reduction drive plans that I'm using are from a Soob EA81 setup developed by Don Parham of RFI. He was th guru of reduction drive design and his were used on all Soob engines and have proven in flight.
Take care... I hope the photos are ok!

Hey Julio... It was good to hear from you!

Sorry I did not get back to you sooner... it's that time of year! I like you choice of engine! I to, will be using a VW engine in my 701... but it is a Type 4 914 Porsche/VW engine. these a great engines that were way ahead of their times when first introduced.

I want to install a belted reduction drive on my Type 4... so the engine can develop its true power! I won't install it on the pulley end... it has to be on the flywheel end, like you have on your Type 1 VW. I've designed a thrust plate mount and have mocked it up with plywood to have a better look at it installed on the engine. It will be a 1.6: 1 reduction, so that the engine can be run at 4200-4500 RPM... I think it should be OK. I also looked at a 1.82:1 reduction... this would allow the engine to rin as high as 4900 RPM. It should develop somewhere between 110 to 120HP... from my calculations. The engine has a stock 2000cc bottom, with an enhenced Cam from WebCam, and 96mm K & B pistons on the top end.

I need to acquire the cog belt HTD pulleys for the redrive yet... I'm having trouble finding some! Where did you get yours from?
Also I need a starter for the flywheel drive setup... I may use the Diehl starter/flywheel that they use with their accessory case... as long as the flywheel is heavy enough... don't want any problems with any internal vibrations!

I will try a send some photos of my planned setup... maybe you can tell me what you think. It's hard finding any info on reduction drives for the VW Type 4 engine... there is only one that I know of in Australia at VW-Engines... but his pricing is rediculus... $6000, so I have to come up with my own setup.

My website is www.ronleclerc.net... I have lots of stuff on there!
