Got basic components drilled to firewall. This may be the time to think through the gear strut setup. If using Corvair, Joe Aloof has advised extending the gear strut an inch or two. Being the Corvair engine weight consideration. Good point.

Yes John, that is what I am planning to do.  Keeping within cg shouldn't be an issue.  I hadn't realized Joe's mount was forward as such.

Why not just do the proper weight and balance?

Yes it is a 701.  Corvair being heavier this is the advice from my friend Joe who had over 200 hrs on his 701 with Corvair. "a little advice?  if your going to use the corvair, its a good time to add a couple of inches to the nose wheel the weight of the engine will stretch the bungie to the  the point it will hit the top of the crossmember when it streches then retracts to far and eventually crack i do have some shots of the upgrade all you need is about a 6 inch peice welded on to extend the gear at the top"

Why would you need to extend the gear? Lycomings are hung on these and they weigh even more I am told. Is this a 701 or 750? Maybe that is the difference.
