Ian - Just spotted your post. What a bummer!
freaky winds are a part of every day life down this way, we have all been lucky so far. trying to figure a pattern for the winds in the basin here not progressing rapidly. sat we had 35 kt's at altitude from the nw, ground level we had 30 kt's from the south and hot and dry as hades
Its a wake up call for me. It was parked in the lee of a hangar with a 5 knot easterley wind.
Goes without saying I will always tie it down when not attanded regardless how benign the day looks!
hi Ian - is it looking like much work? sounds like a real freaky gust of wind, i Guess this is a wake up call for me to get some decent tie downs and repair the tail ring as well so i can tie JRT to mother earth securely, can't always count on getting back in to the hanger.
Loaded up and ready to return to Omaka, South Island New Zealand. Wing tip , spinner and nose wheel spat were damaged following a freek wind at Rangoria. A/C was lifted onto its nose spun around damaging the LH wing tip and landed back on its undercarriage.
