EA 81 Subaru developed a vacuum leak ,,lost power and stalled into trees .pilot and passenger were not hurt .
The design and strength of cabin area were no doubt a plus..
Lesson learned...most auto conversions if carburated use rubber caps on the vacuum lines that are no longer used....... one of the caps had a large crack that resulted in lean condition....this was the first time the plane was flown with 2 people ...when power was applied to climb it mushed into the trees..
I removed the engine ...took all of the pipes comming out of the carb no longer used....installed set screws in their place and installed it on a KR-2 which is performing great..
Never trust rubber installed to block off vacuum lines..

What's the story regarding the crash of this bird. Is there any lesson to be learned from it for other 701 drivers?

This is a 701 that i purchased for parts,,,,subaru engine failer caused forced landing in trees,,,no injuries to pilot or passenger...most of damage done getting the plane out..
