Have decided to change my engine build to a... VW Type 4 2300cc!!! I went with a new stroker 78mm counterweighted crank and new 71mm stroke H-Beam rods... with ARP bolts!!!!! NO redrive as previously planned.... direct drive! With new JE Forged Pistons -- http://www.europeanmotorworks.com/pvw/034-106A/type-4-pistons-cylinders/96mm+Forged+Piston%2C+71mm+Stroke+-+JE

VW Type 4 2600cc Big Bore Engine. 103mm Pistons and 78mm stroke with stock 71mm rods. Take note of the small pulley end nose of the Crankshaft... this crankshaft cannot support a prop hub, the prop hub must be installed on the flywheel end. It can be Direct Drive or a Reduction Drive. The flywheel end is the correct end where the prop hub or redrive should be installed on the Type 4 and/or the Type 1 engine... not on the pulley end!
