OK I am just starting out, Picked up a corvair motor last week and this weekend I make a couple worktable frames from some old pallets hanging around.
Do you remember being this far back in your fabrication?
I plan to put a plywood lower shelf with some extra supports and MDF on the top and some level bolts in the legs. Since I notched all the railing I don't thing I need cross bracing.
I welcome any critizism or ideas.
My biggest task will be getting both tables in the same plane via leveling. The frames are rock solid stiff with screws and gorilla glue. Together will make a 4ft x 16ft work space, should be big enough.

I did plan on adding a cross member under the tabletop. I didn't think about the 2x4's for a jig base I will add a few pieces for the jigs, thankyou for pointing that out for me.

Hey Martin,

Looks like a very sturdy and well built table.

I would encourage you to put a couple of cross members in just to keep the MDF from having any opportunity to sag or buckle due to heat or humidity. You could use something as light as 2x4's. Besides it will give you some extra places to screw and jigs to that you may build later to hold the wings etc.

The MDF is what we use at our facility. It is a great surface but is not very stury when trying to hold something down with screws.

Just my thoughts. Good luck with your project,

Bill Carter

You've got me beat.  I haven't even started a table yet.

Yes I remember being there.  Just keep on building is my advice.

I used large blind nuts at the bottom of the 4x4's with a carriage bolt threaded into it to adjust heights.  Having a level work surface is nice, and very useful. But don't get too carried away or to wrapped in it.  You can always shim if necessary.
