Check out the new Dynon radio. It interfaces with the Dynon Skyview glass panel. Seems like a reasonable price too. …Continue

Back home

Posted on October 22, 2013 at 1:08pm 11 Comments

I'm back in the US. I'm moving in a few weeks, so won't get much done before the Christmas break. My form and cutting blocks shipped home ok- I was worried about getting them through customs. I made a trip to Harbor Freight and got some tools yesterday.

First cutting blocks and form blocks

Posted on July 23, 2013 at 2:08pm 2 Comments

I cut my first form blocks and cutting blocks from some scrap plywood. I borrowed an 18v cordless jigsaw and cut them last night (in my room- I'm sure my room mate loved that, but I swept all the sawdust). Then over lunch today I took the rough cut parts to a tent that has a disc sander and finished them up. I'll have to duplicate them with a flush trim router bit when I get home, but that is easy enough. I may even rough cut their mates here so I can flush trim them when I have access to my…

Patterns glued to plywood

I found a tent with some wood working tools and made friends with those who own it. I took my patterns and have glued them to some scraps of plywood. I'll cut them out with a jig saw, then sand them on their sander.

Drafting desk... kind of

Posted on April 23, 2013 at 1:23pm 0 Comments

So here is my idea for a make-shift drafting desk. I ordered 2 aluminum squares from Amazon (I have the Prime, so get free shipping on most items). I screwed one to the table top and the other can slide for the straight edge. I wish I could…

Hi, Adam. Yes, I am scratch building but I originally started this as a kit. The tail, which I just completed, was all kit except for a few ribs that I had to re-fabricate after I had damaged the originals. Found that I enjoyed doing the scratch work so plan to complete the rest of the plane as a scratch-build. Will likely have to order spars and skins but can fabricate the rest. I see you're a Vet. I am retired Air Force. Thanks!

Plans building is an impressive goal. I don't do much of the posting on this site with the friends stuff, so if you have a question I can help with, just e mail me at or a call at 217 836 7021. I bought a kit so out experiences will be somewhat different.
