I was lucky enough to have been a part of a special day yesterday (Saturday 2nd of January) when on his sixteenth birthday, Ross Brodie flew solo for the first time. more than that he flew sixteen different aircraft in the course of the day including (to keep on topic) my CH701. it was a special day with many well wishers present at Rangitata island airfield here in New Zealand, an impressive effort from a class act young man.

This is one of many groups that winter in our area. They don't tast very good they are mostly feathers.
Good to see a new member in NZ although its not an extra aircraft in the NZ fleet.
Re the vineyard, I havent measured the distance, I drove my car down it at speed before hand and knew it was plenty long enough - it was just so small and narrow from the air - compared with Omaka with its 1300m grass strip in a paddock almost as wide as it is long.- Id guess at about 250 - 300m for the level area in the photo - will actually go and measure it sometime - count the posts, but I could have safey had half the length that still morning after landing on the mark and not really braking except tp park.
