HOW NOT TO DO IT

Posted on August 24, 2010 at 8:57pm 8 Comments

This is not a good way to land but it could have been a lot worse. I am over my diapiontment now so I will share it with everyone on the 20th Febuary 2010 I had an engine failure due to fuel starvation and a forced lading on a forestry track in a place called Duck Marsh Tasmania I was on a 3 mile final for The Vale a private air strip at the base of Mt Roland North West Tasmania Australia I was 700ft AGL approx and no other choise for a lading spot unfortunatley the track was only 12ft to…

Hey Kevin Rudd. I spoke with you a few years back when I lived in Gympie Queensland. We have now moved to Weegena, about 20  klm from Sheffield up the hill from Kimberley. I would like to say hello in person one day soon if you like.

When I said the CH801 flies "like a truck"...that is compaired to the CH750 built light mine handles turbulence like a C150, but is a far better performer on take-off and climb fpm. I also drive a truck...I just don't to fly an aircraft that handles like a truck. If my CH750 glide ratio is "a brick" then the CH801 is "a cinder block". The CH750 can be built in 8 weeks the CH801 a couple years.

Glad you were not hurt....and insured (bonus!). The CH750 builds very fast, and is a joy to fly "off-road"... but not fast in the airspeed dept. Around 95 - 100mph it really hits a wall.
The CH801 is a bear to build and hits the wall around 115mph regardless of the horse power it has...flies like a pickup truck.

Hi Kevin
I just did a quick check in the google groups site and last correspondence from our dealer Allan Barton for a todds was "A rough guide the price to Bendigo will be $650 AUD I am still awaiting the final price".
The LP canopy is being sold from Zenith for $522 USD. I am selling for $500 AUD . No international freight charges, no GST, no waiting.
I dont know where you got the $300 price tag for a todds from but if it is genuine, I would advise you to take advantage of that deal. Please remember that a todds is just regular perspex and is also proned to cracking if you are not careful.

Phill

Very nice looking instrument panel there Kevin. I wish you a speedy entrance into the fraternity. I've flown behind a Cont. 100hp in an AMD 601XLi trainer. It wasn't much less capable when compared to my 120hp Jab. I think that in a 601XL airframe, the Jab can't turn fast enough to make 120 hp anyway. I'd guess I am truly getting about 100 - 115 hp. It's all good... when I am flying and can cruise climb 500 fpm with full fuel and about 400 pounds in the seats, who give's a rat's ass anyway? It's a lot like sex; even when it's bad it's great, right?

Kevin, that is very uncertain: so uncertain that I am not game to put a time on it. Perhaps it will be possible to hazard a guess in a few months.
