Oil down front of crankcase

I’m hoping someone can help tell me why I have a ton of oil leaking from what looks like the lower/upper case. As you can see it’s leaking from the corners and heavily down the pilot side. Why is…Continue

Oil down front of crankcase

I’m hoping someone can help tell me why I have a ton of oil leaking from what looks like the lower/upper case. As you can see it’s leaking from the corners and heavily down the pilot side. Why is this happening? It’s all over the cowling as well. It’s not the oil filter, I have that tightened down really well. But I’m dumping a considerable amount down the front here and I shouldn’t be. Here is the video. Please help! I keep the engine oil on the lower end of the stick so it’s definitely not an…See More

Oil overflow down the belly

Hi owners, I have the Jabiru 3300, it has an oil overflow canister with a 1/2 inch line going from overflow canister out the bottom of the cowl. Now no matter how much or little oil I put in the engine, it will overflow out the canister and down the belly of the plane. Isn't the purpose of the overflow canister just for overflow? When you add too much to the engine it spills the excess for you?But again, no matter how much or little I add, I always have oil down the belly. And its always coming…See More

Whats on my piston heads?

Hey everyone, hoping you can help identify whats on the piston heads with these pictures: I have the 3300A engine. Ive been experimenting with different carb jets with the intention of lowering fuel consumption, but I understand that comes with an increased EGT.According to installation manual: EGT: 1112 - 1328 FCHT Max: 392 FWhat Im running: EGT: About 1200, maybe a little less around 1180CHT: Rarely above 210 I have not run the plane in about 2 months. Why do my pistons look like this? Is…See More

Winter Oil Temps

Hi all, I live in the Seattle area and it gets cold, Im worried my oil temps are too low.The manual says a minimum of 59 degrees is acceptable. Im over that, closer to 100 in the colder winter months. But the manual say the continuous op temp is 176-212 and Im nowhere near that.Is my low oil temp scouring my cylinder walls? I will see when I do annual which is not for another couple months, but curious if anyone has thoughts on this? Has anyone developed a oil cowling system that can be operated…See More

Jabiru Throttle Control Issue

Hey guys, new plane owner (1 year) so still some rocks I'm overturning here and there, and came across this issue which I believe is new. I have what I believe to be the McFarland throttle control with vernier assist. Black knob with white writing indicating direction of turn for micro adjustments. I need to jump back in the library of records on this plane to confirm that, but its what it looks like I have. I didn't build this plane so not sure yet. Issue:When I unscrew the friction nut the…See More

Rusted Exterior Cylinder

I just noticed this morning that the exterior of my starboard cylinder bank is significantly more rusted than the port side (video below).  Looking back to old photos/video, it seems to have been this way when I purchased the plane in August. This engine was rebuilt by the guys at Arion in Shelybville, so it was approved to leave their shop about 2 years ago. I do not know if cylinders were replaced at this time, meaning there is possibility of newer and less rusted cylinders in the mix leaving…See More

3300 max RPM issue after intake mod

Hey all hoping someone has seen this issue. Here is my series of events. 3300 engine runs perfectly smoothly upon annual inspection I find the scat tube going from air filter to carburetor has failed at the very spot the carb and scat tube meet, meaning I had been drawing raw air into the carb.I replace the scat tube and I get a very rough running engine at high rpm, a known problem published by Jabiru where the scat tube creates disturbed air just before entering the carb. I replace the scat…See More
