does anyone know if the 750 double door latch can be retrofit to the 701 bubble doors?

Flats

Posted on March 29, 2011 at 3:24pm 1 Comment

Went to hangar yesterday and was greeted with two flat tires on my 701. Nose wheel and right front main. Right front main had a tube put in about 2 months ago and nose wheel has been fine for over a year now. anybody out there having issues with the Matco combos. Left main and nose wheel are still tubeless. 20 hours in and these are the only issues.

Today N5909C flew for the first time. aside from a slight trim issue, she flew beautifully!. For those of you still building, stay at it. it is worth every second of the time you are putting in to it!

Ready for flight!

3 1/2 years of building has come to a successful end as CH701 'N5909C" received her airworthiness certificate today. I can say that I have joined all of those that went before me in celebrating this fantastic feeling that I am sure will only be surpassed by flying her for the first time.

Today it finally started.

Went perfectly. Lots of stress for nothing.

Tom,
Just saw your email, hope you get this one. That was very nice of you to donate the gift certificate for the clubs benefit, I am sure they will all sell quick. Let me know when you have the first flight, I might fly out and watch ( will stay out of the way ). If you need a chase plane I would be glad to do it. Tom

Hi Tom,
The ROTAX TIPS & TECHNIQUES video was the original one, shot several years ago. It was intended to describe installations in any aircraft. It did have a chapter on the electrical system. The newer video was created to show an installation specifically in the 701 (ring mount) and was demonstrated by Doug in California. So , there is definitely overlapping information between them...

Thanks for the kind words, Thomas. My engine is a Rotax 912ULS. I have carb heat because I am using an airbox and pulling unheated air from the outside, rather than using heated air from under the cowl.

Best wishes on your completion and flying. You're going to love how the 701 flies!

Not sure about the Rotax electrical power output, but I would do as they suggest.

Hi Tom. The EXP BUS2V tray system is a good piece of equipment IMHO. That does not mean that it is the answer to all your prayers... I have added a few switch/breaker units to fill in the shortcomings. There was no breakered circuit in the device light enough for the Ray Allen trim units (2amp required), nor any heavy enough for the flaps (15amp) the alternator output (35amp), or the main power to the electrical system (also 35amp). Since the Jab 3300 has a permanent magnet alternator, the alternator field circuit switch was surplus and put to other use. Likewise some others such as clearance delivery. I did not use the built in master relay but instead chose to use the master switch to enegize a master contactor in front of the firewall. The only high current wires aft of the firewall are: (1) the output of the alternator/regulator to its assigned breaker, (2) the return from that breaker to the ammeter shunt [ahead of the firewall], and (3) the main power from the other side of the shunt to the rest of the electrical system. Tim Fonentot at Control Vision is a nice and capable guy and can help you with your specific issues. The unit is professional looking, easy to install, and very compact. I would use it again if the situation arose.

Thomas, Dave Ruhe here. I live in Baker Co. just west of Glen St. Mary. Am building a 701 from plans and only have the rudder done so far. Working on wing ribs and spar. Maybe we can get together some time. I'm 65 and still work full time so I don't have alot of time to work on the 701. Where in Jax do you live? Dave
