Reinstalling the Wing Root Skins on a 701

Posted on February 28, 2023 at 2:00am 7 Comments

Although several years ago, I recollect that the wing root skins when clecoed to the uninstalled wings looked pretty smooth and unbuckled,  a tough job but nicely executed.

Now as I try to install the wing root skins w the wings on the plane,  trimming to clear the skylight per the plans and manual. It seems no matter which way I start clecoing them on, I cannot get away from having a stressed, buckled wrinkled mess (and thats just me). I keep coming back to: Am I sure this is…

CH-701 Cabin Frame Jigging

Re: Jigging 701 Cabin Frame

Following the procedures in the plans and manual for levelling fuselage, Hz tubes on cabin frame and engine mount, I jigged drilled and cleco'd the cabin frame to the AC. I supported the assembly at the

bottom of the firewall to get everything level (Fwd fuse is rivetted to rear fuse). When all was done I pulled the support from under the firewall, and of course everything sagged a bit leaving

Thanks for the comment. The 750 has been a challenging and rewarding project. I have some final fuel lines to secure and engine runs are planned for next week. The cowl unique in that only the nose bowl if fibreglass. Everything else is aluminum. I'll post some detail pics next week.

WRT to my plane and the radiator oil cooler

the previous owner put it like that but it is not nice, I am going to configure it standard again with oil cooler on the side.

Thanks, Perry. I'm enjoying it. Got the fuel system from Skytek Aircraft, your neighbors up there in B.C.

Yes it is. I was going for the 100 hp, but I got my hands on a used engine whit only 600 h. The deal included the propeller and the Dynon flightdeck, and was to good a deal to let go. If it will work as planned only time will tell.

Hi Perry,

Do you have a header tank in your 701? If so, do you have any photos you could share?

Shay.
