Canopy gas cylinders

New to aircraft.

The gas cylinders on my aircraft 601XLB are listed at 40 lbs.

They hold the canopy up but if I step on the wing walk to get in the canopy falls.

Is that the best the cylinders should work? Seems poor to me.

Are they not working correctly?

Can or should I get higher pressures cylinders?

Thanks for your reply.

Thaw in the way

45 baby chickens showed up yesterday, and its above 30 for the first time. Thaw is here and will be making a mess for the next two weeks. I have to pause on the plane for a few days while we get ready for spring. After 7 weeks of hard building I am ready for a break for a few. And my hands definitely need a few days to heal.

Preparations for joining main spar to center spar

The joining of the main spar to the center spar is something that I have thought often about over the time that I have been working on this project.I am finally to that point. There is also very little information describing how others have tackled this important step.

In the video below I describe some of the preparations and setup I am doing for maximizing the chances of getting this important step correct. Hopefully the information presented will be useful

There will…

One month in, 160 hrs

so, it's been a month since I picked up the kit. About 160 hrs in.

The rear fuse is in deburring stage.

the wings are mocked up with tanks in, but still working on the nose skin, root ends, tips, etc..

the horizon stab, elevator and rudder are done...but need to redo elevator as previous builder had mocked it up badly and so is not perfect.

Landing gear is assembled and holding air.

The firewall is at deburring stage.

    It's going well, it…

The Zodiac 601XL-B battery removale and replacemenmt

I am buying this aircraft from an estate.

The two ways I see to change out the battery is remove the horizontal stabilizer or get a very very small person to climb into the tailcone.

Is this correct?

Gap in Knowledge & Disconcerting Gap on CruZer Vertical Stabilizer Spar

Hey Cruzer Builders,

I Found a 'Gap' while fitting the Vertical Stabilizer (VS) to trim it (many times) for the elevator deflection... I am not sure i have it built correctly.  If it is correct, then i'll need a 'FIX' to continue.

The piece cleco's in well, but there is a sizable Gap where the side skin has to be pulled away to extend over the VS Spar; thereafter not allowing the skin to stay 'nested' in the recesses of the longerons.

My Kit was…

2018 West Coast Gathering?

I am considering putting together another gathering during the Arlington Fly In.

Would anyone be interested?

This would be at KAWO (Arlington, WA) during July 6, 7, and 8.

Activities could include a Zenith Fly Out. We will also have access to a runway for flight activities during the fly in.
