Still making progress on the slats for my 701.  These special STOL surfaces have got me thinking about short field techniques.  My past Maule and Champ were both great STOL performers.  The Maule used 50 degrees of flap to get in short fields, the Champ used side slips.  I preferred the side slip as it was easy to put in and take out to adjust the descent.

Have any of you who are flying 701s used slips rather than max flaperon for steep approach into short fields?  I'd love to have some feedback on that.

We avoid the slip - try it once with the headset off and you will know why!!!

In fact, when you bring the nose up and let the speed decay that machine will drop so readily you really do not need to slip it.  IMO

David   The 701 slips very well I use both depending on the landing area. I have used both at the same time depending on the speed of the approach. Watch your decent rate (kenitic energy) so you will be able to flair as needed.
