Day 1 was the 28 May 2010 and we flew from Bendigo-Swan Hill-White Cliffs 379nm 4.4 hrs. The weather was marginal but once in the air and heading north the cloud lifted and within the hour we had broken clouds.

Day 2 saw and early start it was going to be a long day

White Cliffs-Cameron Corner-William Creek-Oodnadatta 515 nm 6.2 hrs. All day we had head winds 15-20kts the landing at Oodnadatta was a welcome relief knowing the longest day was at last over.

After the last day this was nice and short with an unexpected surprise at Dalhousie Springs

A great days flying blue skies and tail wings

We fly to the Bungle Bungles and land at Bellburn Airstrip for a day of sightseeing in a Bitumen Boeing there are times that you need to see things from the ground.

Day 8 Kununurra - Emkaytee (Darwin NT) 137 nm 2.7 hrs flight time
Just a short days flying but a lot of sightseeing as we are flying up the coast to Darwin for a 2 night stopover

Hey Allan,

We'll have to post the entire story (its turning into war and peace) here once it's all done.

Cheers

Great story, great pictures, fond memories. I flew C-141A transports for the USAF in the early seventies. One of my favorite missions, in five years worth of flying that global transport, was to Australia. The people were wonderful, the country was lovely and the flying was spectacular. Several of the fields we landed at in the Outback (to resupply satelite tracking stations) were uncontrolled and we were directed to make a low pass on the runway (to check for stray animals or unexpected objects) before landing. A license to steal -- take this jet and go make passes! My favorite part of the whole memory, however, is how I was treated while in that wonderful country. I was an American GI in the Viet Nam era, and I was treated with courtesy there at a time when I was spit on and called a baby killer when I was home. One old Australian told me that he and his countrymen had not forgotten that they would be speaking Japanese if we had not helped them. This old GI will never forget the return favor. Thanks, guys and dolls of Australia!

Thanks for sharing! Your photos bring back a lot of memories. When I was a student pilot at Alice Springs in 1970, one of my cross countries was to Oodnadatta.

Flying under identical conditions, a good chance to evaluate the Rotax 912ULS vs Jabiru 3300 in the same airframe. Does the Jabiru 3300 really benifit fron the 120 hp vs the Rotax 100hp?
