New Zealand South Island in November?

My wife and I will be touring the South Island for two weeks from 1st November in a campervan.

Do any Kiwi Zenith members have any advice about aviation related events that are worth visiting while we're there?

I'd be interested in seeing some STOL ops and WW1 replica aircraft.

Best regards,

Shay.

It's probably a bit late to report on our campervan trip to New Zealand, but better late than never I suppose. We went to see the Aviation museums in Wanaka and Omaka and the Air Force museum in Christchurch.

On our last night we were in a campsite by the beach in Kaikoura. About midnight, we were in bed, when the earthquake struck. It measured 7.9 on the Richter scale and we were at the epicentre. We evacuated the campsite and drove to higher ground on the edge of town. A Kiwi family invited us to join them. We spent the night with them in their backyard riding out the aftershocks.

The next few days were interesting; no electricity, water, sewage, phone signal, internet, or shops or ATMs.

After three days we left our campervan with dozens of others in a schoolyard and we were airlifted out.

We still keep in touch with our new Kiwi friends. Kaikoura is still recovering.

Ralph,

Thanks for that good info.

I'd better keep all this aviation stuff as a surprise for the wife.

The most 701 in one place is Rangiora airfield Christchurch  i think that is the launchpad for those serious alpine landings on Youtube....

As Chris said, Omaka is the Peter Jackson collection you might also find a museum at Wanaka

and Croydon Aircraft Factory Manderville

You must see peter jacksons aviation museum on the top of the South Island at Omaha airport. Take out the windscreen insurance. We did 2 windscreens in 3 weeks in our campervan tour of the South Island.
