After 6 years of flying with a EA 81 Subaru engine I am tired of expermiting with trying to correct a cooling problem.

I am giving up on the subie and am in the process of buying a used lycoming 0235 C2C 108 hp engine. After I get the lyc inspecteed and ready to install i am going to remove the subie complete with motor mount, prop, radiators, oil coolers and all other items attached to engine and weight it to give a camparasion with the lyc. I feel I can install the Lyc at the same or less weight as the subie.

Any body have pictures of the Lyc installition and exhaust on a Zodiac please let me know or forward to me.

Thanks

Dave

Yes it is liquid cooled, I first used a volkswagan rabbit radiator witch was recommended. It was installed inside the cowl behind the engine with baffles to direct air through the rad. this did not work so installed two oil coolers and this helped but not very well, than had a larger rad build but still runs hot. Have tryed different configuations on the cowl with inlet sizes and exit sizes, Biggist help was putting a lip at bottom air exit to create a low pressure area but still runs hot. if 70 deg F out side it runs at 220 deg F. Any hotter out side it runs hotter yet. Some have cured the cooling problem by building fancy cooling ducts in the rear of the fuse or bigger expense rads, or hanging the rad under the fush. Did not want to spoil the looks of the plane with it hanging under. I just dont want to theow any more money at it. Have talked to a lot of people that have had cooling problems with the subie. Have tryed swirl pots with larger expansion tanks and all i seem to do is add more weight. Have had to put new rings in the engine twice I think because the engine runs hot all the time. and now the engine is loosing compression again.
