Poison Spring runway 29

Looking northwest from the other side of my plane at Poison Spring. From here to the rise in the runway in the distance is about 800’. The runway surface is soft sand and the undulations in it are worse than the pictures show. Takeoff and landing…

One of my favorite places to land

This shot is from last Saturday. It’s a lovely little strip in Western Colorado that I frequent in my 701. It’s as short as it looks, and is about 5000’ MSL. The 701 easily negotiates it with two aboard. I’m coming up on 800 hours in my 701, mostly…

Zenith 701 country. Lesser airplanes need not apply.

This lovely strip in western Colorado sits a little above 5000’MSL on BLM land. One of the joys of building and flying a Zenith STOL airplane is dropping in on places like this just to enjoy the scenery and solitude while drinking my morning coffee…

Hi Randy,  I've got 54 hrs on my 701. I was reading you describe trimming up your plane to fly hands off, is that with just yourself in the plane?  Mine, with a passenger flies nose heavy and trim doesn't have too much effect on it ...it's a good workout for your shoulder after a half hour of constant pressure back on the stick.  Flying single it trims up just fine.  Are you having simular problems?

I tend to install one 'Cessna' type friction adjustable on the left and T bar on the right - it is quite easy to set, but you will need to think about it and check that it doesn't 'jump' the outer sleeve - so it needs 'fixed' at the firewall.

Hope that helps!

Hi Randy. My FWF is from Skyshops, which no longer supplies FWF kits for Zenith models. I like it because it has an airbox with carb heat, so I can pull outside combustion air and get the full 100hp from my 912ULS. I also like the cowl design. George Mueller built a Skyshops FWF 701 and is selling the plane and FWF in separate chunks, but other than that the Skyshop FWF is no longer available. Good luck on your build. The 701 is a blast to fly!

Hi, we are looking for a volunteer CFI - does that interest you.... we train local people as a way of a) funding MoM and b) keeping the airfield operational, c)a source of volunteer pilots - but there are only so many days in the hour - at least if feels that way! ...
