I have followed Jans Viking engine since he started on this project. I am now a inactive pilot, the cost has put me on hold, and I am getting older. I have multi and instr airplane ratings and have been staying alive since 1972. I do plan on building at 750 with a Viking engine, not so much for me ( well little white lies never did hurt) but more for my two boys who both would like to get their lic  but can not afford the cost of traditional aviation. Jan has been building auto conversions for a long time, I have met some of the RV folks that use his products and they are very satisfied with the product and the support he has given them. I dont think that blasting folks that have been spending their time helping to make our more affordable flying machines work will help us or the industry. Keep up the good work Jan, I am closer to getting started every year! John Saunders PS ( If there

is anyone in the North Houston Tx area that would like to share one of these little babies out of Hooks look me up!

The cheapest way to get back flying is to buy a Champ, Chief, Cub... and even a tired (read "well proven") C150 to teach the kids to fly. The whole, completed & flying aircraft can be purchased for less than the cost of the engine or CH750 parts kit. Back to the basics of flying, KISS principal.

Bob, this kids can not afford the PP, only the sports lic. Otherwise I would agree with you. John

Not counting shipping and crating cost on either; 701 airframe with brandnew 80 hp Rotax roughly $32,500 (no instruments or interior). 750 airframe with brandnew 100 hp (carb) Rotax roughly $40,000 (no instruments or interior). For the cost of the engines I'm using Lockwood prices I've seen recently. Don't know if they are still good. Estimated cost of: Sport pilot license roughly $3000 - $5000; private $6000 - $9000. Decent used C150 under $20,000. Bob's idea should be a consideration if the two boys are not yet licensed. My two cents

Remember the cost of the Annuals

COST OF BUILDING YOUR OWN AIRCRAFT    PRICELESS  !!!!!!!

John, check your message box.

Rusty, I am not sure how I do that??? John

Hi John,

I also give Jan a lot of credit. I believe he has applied what he has earned with previous engine projects, picked a great base engine and has come up with a really nice aircraft engine in the Viking. I have been following Jan's progress since he first brought the Viking to OSH and I am impressed. I work as an automotive engineer and have some understanding of how much work it is to develop a new complex product like the Viking.

I have already configured the wing tanks in my Zodiac 650B for the Viking return line and am set to order a Viking engine in about a year. Jan has a high regard to safety and I think he is doing a great service to sport aviation by developing this engine.

It sounds like you are on your way! I have flown a Zodiac and they are great planes! Keep on going it will get there! John
