I've got a quick-drain (750) that sometimes drips a very tiny amount of fuel (I left my door open and it dripped on the plexi and frame, so I've now got blue stripes on the door.

Any clever way to change it out without draining the tank? Any smart way to clean up the dried fuel?

THANKS everybody!

HI Wayne,, when this happens on our Cessna, I Pull the drain fitting and put my thumb over the hole with the new drain at the ready to insert. As for the stain I use Meguire's polish which should work on paint or plexiglass...Tom

get a replacement stainless steel valve, and as you havent done this before obtain from the vetinary clinic one of those long arm vinyl gloves they use for the hard to reach places of a cow.

The pros just unscrew the leaking valve with one hand, pop the new one in with the other. You can catch the fuel in a bowl, its not much. The glove is to allow avgas to not run along your arm, its not nice.

For my 701, the threads are taper, and i was careful to avoid any twisting stress on the tanks. Use Vise-grips on the collar and apply the unscrewing force between the grips and spanner only.

I used to repair the rusty valves and keep one onboard as spare but it got frequent enough for me to buy the SS version and they are just great. All brass would be another way. My Cessna had the same problem why they made them in Cad plated steel when their function is to drain water....

Mine are brass. Perhaps there's a tiny burr that stops it from closing properly some of the time (I have turned it and snapped it before and got it to stop leaking, but I'd prefer that it not leak at all. I have a new brass one, but I'll inspect it carefully with a hand lens if the seat and valve head are visible.

Thanks for you ideas.

I've replaced lots an lots of quick drains, save the old one, 9 times outa 10 there's a paint chip or some other small piece of dabree is stuck in the o ring. I just swap em, clear the dabree an save the old one for next time

Dave

Good point, David. Thanks.
