We will show available info regarding comparative performance of Zenith aircraft equipped with different engines.
POWER NOW OR POWER LATER
Not all aircraft engines can practically produce the HP they claim. Propeller pitch and Exhaust Gas Temperatures during takeoff are usually sited as reasons. So, when you need the HP the most, the advertised power is not available.
A UL representative is saying the 130hp model engine is not sold to deliver 130hp and that a larger engine should be purchased if 130hp is wanted for takeoff.
The previous favorite 130hp UL engine was resently derated to / replaced with 118hp in the Zenith demonstrator. Since the same engine now has less compression and makes 118hp at 3,300 RPM, the takeoff power is only 115 at the recommended and maximum continious 2,800 RPM. That is 15hp less than the Viking 130 at brake release.
The representative is saying the engine is not sold to deliver 130 hp and that a larger engine should be purchased if 130 is wanted for takeoff.
The Viking 130 engine goes to max power instantly and then power is reduced as needed. With the UL, partial power is available instantly and then more becomes available with airspeed. For a STOL aircraft, we believe in the Viking method.
Here is a Video showing the now recomended UL size engine for the CruZer and the max cruising speed of 113.5 MPH. For anyone thinking they get a 130 mph cross country airplane, you will be disapointed. However, as Sebastien points out in the Video, the CruZer is a nice airplane and you can expect to sail along between 110 and 120MPH with the UL engine up front.
Here is a another cruZer with the Viking 130 up front - makes it a different airplane

According to UL's web site the UL350I engine is 118 HP and the UL350IS is a UL350I engine modified to a higher compression ratio to achieve 130 HP.
Jan,
Sorry if this as already been posted somewhere else, but do you have Dyno charts for the 130 engine?
