Just finished Subject. Want to share my thoughts and if anyone needs a purchase list I have one for a 701. I will add to this a bit at a time but my opening remark is WOW it’s a lot of work and money. And when you’re done, the airplane doesn’t look any different.  Took me about three weeks to do the work and a couple months of planning and ordering stuff. Yikes. But like most things there were good and bad to be had.

I think I’ll approach this in order of execution, so first up is the planning stage.

Pros: you get very familiar with the manuals. Need to use the IPC to verify what and where parts are that need replaced. Then the MML and MMH for procedures and little things that add up such as Locktite and lubricants and other assembly consumables. Things like copper crush washers that should be replaced with new once removed. Then you start calculating what items you are comfortable with doing and what you should maybe outsource.I did most everything myself except I decided to send my carbs out to someone who does them every week. That way I could work on replacing other stuff while they were out of town being serviced by a professional. The cost difference was $320 more for Lockwood to do the carbs vice me doing them so I went with using a pro. 
Cons: there’s not a comprehensive list of what you need readily available, at least not that I found. Lockwood in Sebring FL was very helpful and provided a list of many times but some were missing, or didn’t apply to my engine as they don’t know your exact engine configuration. I used their list as a starting point. I took it and the Rotax manuals and started my own excel spreadsheet, adding things as I went along. Used Zenith for some items as well.included the price of each item and kept a running total. Tempting during this part of the process to plan on addressing other items that need attention as I combined this with my 12 month Airworthiness inspection. The price keeps growing when one does so.

Lesson learned: start a couple months out and order in affordable batches and to allow for lead times. Several of the items I ordered from Lockwood stated not in stock with a 30 day lead time- but I never had to wait that long. Zenith is a good source for some of the items that are 701 configuration specific or are not Rotax supplied parts so use them for those things.

Yup no worries. I just now finished up after my second post- service functional check flight. Lots of post-install tweaking going on. The fuel lines were a lot of work but not technically challenging. The oil lines however, were painful. I found Vaseline to be a miracle product when it came to pushing new oil lines onto those barbed push-lock AN fittings. Without it, I could not push that stiff hose past the first barb. Then of course trying to tighten the fittings without producing a seep. Remember when you remove those oil hoses now you must purge the oil system. Don’t forget to order the valve cover gaskets set.  Do you have a push gauge to do the hydraulic lifter check after the purge procedure? Oh and gotta do the mechanical and pneumatic carb synch before first flight too- you removed the carbs to service them and replaced both sockets. Oh, and in doing so, those braided wire throttle cables that are so beat up from year.y carb synchs need replaced too.

P.S: I think it would be better to do it on condition. Because the change of all the parts might be riskier than the rubber condition. My lines still look like brand new.
