Hi harry,

My father and i built a sonex waiex and painted with stewart systems . very hard durable finish. But dont kid yourself,

painting is lots of work. We built a paint booth, got space suits, goggles, resperators. Completely cover your body.

We had a fan with filter to keep room clear. You have to have a scale to measure A & B. Add water AFTER  A& B are thourghly mixed, otherwise you will get fisheyes.

I have a cruzer half built and a 701 restoring.  Doing vinyl wrap. For me thats the way to go. Start /stop when you want, no temp control worry, no fumes/overspray, no mess, no cleanup. Very easy learning curve. I get my vinyl from Rvinyl a company in new york. Prompt , shipping in cardboard tubes. 3M 1080 or 2080.  www.Rvinyl.com

good luck on your finishing!

michael.

I painted mine with SS six years ago, not perfect but it was my first paint job. But it still looks good. I’m currently painting a car with it too. It is a lot of work as Michael says and has its pros and cons like any other coating system. I used it primarily because it’s safer to handle and spray and easy to clean up, and the labor and shop fee costs you’d pay someone to paint your aircraft- or your car- is so crazy expensive. I found material costs to be about the same between SS and urethane systems. SS primers are forgiving of small operator errors when spraying but the top coats require strict adherence to SS instructions for prep, mixing, temperature, humidity, spray equipment, pressure, distance, application technique, etc. SS tech support is very good if you have questions.  I’d practice on some scrap pieces first. Bottom line if I can do it anyone can!
