I am getting ready update my front landing gear to the bushing system and want to remove my O-235 while I do this work. The plane is in the build stage and there is no prop, cowling or accessories to deal with. I have been researching engine stands and only find the overhaul stand or adapting an automotive stand (which seems a bit dicey). My thought is to make a stand which supports the rear via the engine mounts and then have a vertical support which would attach at the propeller plate. Are there any concerns about supporting the weight at the propeller plate? Any suggestions on a stand design?

Installed with engine on. Not a problem. Automotive stand will work just fine.

Alright, thanks. I'll take a closer look.

I have made progress on this phase of my project. I modified an automotive engine stand to accept the O-235, added a cross piece at the front of the stand with casters and the engine sits stable. I am able to rotate without tipping, which is why the cross piece was added. The front landing gear is removed and I found access is much better with engine off. For me the removal was worth the time for ease of working on the landing gear and some firewall area tasks.
