Gidday,

  1. I am needing to finalise a design for my custom seats and was hoping I could see some photos of the finished product, the dual seat cushion and back so I can visualise and come up with a design. Any help much appreciated.

Here's some pics of my seats with dual sticks in the STOL 750.  Following the pics, I'll give you some pros and cons:

"If I only knew then what I know now," I would have made the bottom cushion longer,  extending towards the sides of the stick and made the forward area of the cushion thick enough to support my thighs.  This would distribute the weight and pressure points better for more comfort on long cross countries. The bottom cushion has three graduated densities of temperature-sensitive foam and two densities in the seat back.  My upholsterer made up a "skirt" to cover the dual stick mechanism and a boot for the stick.  The skirt is marine-grade vinyl with a foam backing to give it stiffness and shape.  This keeps foreign objects out of the dual stick mechanism and also looks great, IMHO!  The boot wraps around the stick and is secured with Velcro.  The top of the boot is gathered to the stick with a translucent elastic hair band.

Hope this helps and let us know what you come up with!

Here are a few pictures of mine in a 750 STOL with dual sticks.  Our daughter was very specific that they needed to be fabric and that I needed sliding seats since she is not very tall.  I did not cover the controls.  I did keep the extra fabric from the gal who made these for me.  I will be using the fabric to make something to cover the tunnel between the seats.  I do a lot of passenger flights and young eagles flights for kids and the tunnel is getting paint chipped from the seat belts.  I have the standard Zenith shoulder belts.  I will either fabric cover the tunnel or make a padded fabric covered console.  I realized just how comfortable these seats are when a did several flights in our club Cessna 172 a few weeks ago.  These really have me spoiled.

Hi John,

Tony hear about the seats n your plane, the request I made some time back for assistance. I really appreciate the time to share. Your Centre tunnel, would an arm rest be something you could put there, I know it is particularly handy for the yoke guys? All the photos are good inspiration. I had a devil of a time getting back to this message thread to reply to you, I tried searching myself and I don’t come up as a member even…. Got there in the end but at don’t know how and will need to figure it out. Would you know how to easily get to your home page, per se?

I’ll send through some pics of my seats once I get the design, it’s coming along nicely.

I put an arm rest/storage compartment on my center console (secured by Velcro)  - bought it from JC Whitney auto parts decades ago and never used it back then, but I never throw anything away! LOL!  It is lightweight, perfect height, and the grey vinyl was a perfect match for the vinyl "skirts" and boots I have covering my dual sticks:
