Autopilot Servo pushrod building advice

I’ve just divorced my controls and have a new elevator bellcrank I wish to predrill for the autopilot pitch servo pushrod bellcrank rod end to attach to. I’m having trouble determining a source for small rod ends, currently looking at Pegasus Racing’s website. It seems they might come as small as AN 3 axle bolts, but is that a suitable sized rod end and consequent pushrod diameter, would it be a tube or solid rod….. lots of questions on making up a link rod and keen on any input. Thanks in…See More

wheel skates for easy lateral moving of aircraft in tight spaces

My building space is at a premium and I need to move my aircraft laterally every day to clear a space for my wife's car. I have it on saw horses which sit on platforms with castoring wheels, and I wish to replicate this with similar flexibility once my aircraft is on its wheels. Does anyone know of a product, my Googling has come up short, or has anyone made easy to use skates for their hangar storage solution? See More

Rod end retaining

I recently received a photo of a friend’s aircraft autopilot system and saw large penny washers over the face of the rod ends. As we know Zenith don’t agree that the rod ends can separate from the entrapped ball and bolt to the adjacent structure, but I am at the point where I could install them if I choose. The waters get muddied when EAA encourage their use, as detailed in attached photo. I have a couple of questions for the group:1) I can only imagine that at some point in the past there has…See More

Prevailing or running torque values on Nylocs?

I’m about to tighten up the flaperon bellcranks in the fuse which are AN5 bolts. I have a small torque wrench that has an internal spring in the handle. I’ve found reference to 100-140 inch/lbs so once I convert it to Newtons that’s a place to start, but I need to add for the Nyloc drag. Would anyone have recommendations, my torque wrench is not ideal at being able to determine the prevailing and/or running drag. Thanks for any wise counsel. See More

Additional alternator for 914

I want to not have to be discretionary in my use of electricity and with the 914 having electric fuel pumps I reckon it might be smart to consider a 2nd alternator. I believe there is a blank up front on the crankcase for one.....I would like to hear from anyone who has first person experience with using one please? Thanks in anticipation.See More

Rotax 914 FWF engine mount assistance request

Hi,I've got a 20 year old 914 that is new in a box, has never been started except maybe in the factory, that is going on my 750 Cruzer in due course. I would like to know if the firewall is the same between the 750 and the 750 Cruzer, think its a silly question but I need it verified. I also am keen to know if there is any pitfalls or things I can manage now in the choices I make with Skytek of Canada for my FWF kit. It seems like there is a fair bit involved and I only have one shot at getting…See More

Tony, you had asked about how far from the fulcrum on the bell crank did I attach the servo arm on my Garmin GSA 28. It is 40mm from the fulcrum. There’s no particular reason for that distance it just worked out better for clearance and mounting the servo.   The servo is capable of 60 inch lbs of torque which should be more than enough for the cruzer controls.

Hi, Tony.  the -9 doubler came with my kit, delivered on June 12, 2023.  Roger sent me the jpg view of the doubler installed on the rear spar. I've seen other builders' photos where the doubler extends all the way to the root, mine does not. Reference my photo where the inboard end of -9 starts at wing station 190 (station zero is the root rib.) Station 190 is that measurement in millimeters progressing out towards the wing tip. It ends at station 970.  I figured out the placement before I heard from Roger by aligning the factory drilled rivet holes.  I answer to Don. I'm called by other names, just don't call me late for dinner.
