Recent Hurricane Relief in the East

I thought I would share this powerpoint pdf that I made of the hurricane relief airlift operations running out of the Carolinas.  It is just one person's view of  what was and still is a massive relief effort. CH801 N733YD (aka The Good Ship Rollerskate) did yeoman service on it's tiny scale even if the pilot is now getting a bit long in the tooth for this sort of stuff. The entire operation was massive and run by several organizations. The level of donations and the performance of the people…See More

N733YD new home nearing completion

The hanger side of my hanger home (~4 years in the building- a one man job) is done except for the epoxy on the floor. The residence side should be ready this spring. The strip (1SC1, 1200 feet of grass) will be fully ready this spring as well. Looking forward to getting up in the morning, pushing that hanger door button and going flying.  Hope to see some of you at SunNFun this spring. …See More

Zenith 801 makes 50

I just finished a trip up to Maine from SC in my 801 (RollerSkate). It was very memorable for several reasons. 1- when I landed and departed Laconia NH that made a straight 50 for me - a take of and landing as PIC in all 50 states. About 40% of those states were accomplished in my 801. 2-The fall foliage up north was in prime colors, and nothing like an 801 to cruise slow and low and take in all of the beauty. 3- I got to fly up the Hudson River corridor. Circle the Statue of liberty and fly…See More

N733YD CH801 Shakedown Cruise

Posted on August 9, 2017 at 12:49pm 0 Comments

I just got back from about 25 hours of flight in 2 1/2 weeks. Did some local ADS-B and avionics check flights and rigging checks after the dual stick conversion. Then a long trip.

I am very disappointed with the dual stick kit that I paid $800 for. Installed per the instructions the stick hits the dash when forward well before all travel is achieved and when back it needed to be about 2 inches into my chest with the seat way back to get full up elevator.  I had to redesign the…

Hi Sam - Did you figure out the Nosegear Shock Suspension using the round rubber disks on your CH801?  If so, what disks did you use, how many, and where did you get them?  I have a CH640 which has the same front fork design as the CH801 and I'd like to get rid of the shock cord on my plane also.  Thanks !  Brian  702-371-6710

Samuel,

Your experience on reduced drag with belly cargo pod is highly interesting. Thanks for sharing.

For the wing slats, you may want to see "swing slat" moving up for slat opened and moving down flushed with wing leading-edge top surface for slat closed. The construction/modification is very much simpler than the moving in-and-out slats.

I got the idea from www.supercub.com.

Slatless 701 from Jeff Badgero
Yes vgs on leading edge of wings back of elevator and top of elevator also e=
nd plates on elevator. I started out with slats and donated them to an orang=
e tree in Florida on my first attempt to fly to Haiti. Then I replaced with s=
eatless 18 " longer wings wit no root and 13 gal tanks. It handles more pred=
ictable on landings now

Sam, I think we normally run 360 to 370, I don't think we have ever gone over 390. But it is cool here now, so not sure where we will be when it gets hot outside.

Hi,

I'd like to see the picture of the aluminum fairing that you just installed under the horizontal stabilizer. Thanks.
