Found two cracks in my aluminum flywheel.
The new parts require the reduction gearbox to move forward 1/4 inch. This causes the radiator to move forward, and interfere with the cowl.
I decided to try modifying the drive coupling by machining 1/8 inch off each side, thereby recovering the 1/4 inch.
I plan to do a few high power ground runs before flying, and will update this post with the results.…

Steve, I got the engine mount on Monday. Won't get the engine until December if their projection holds up. They sent it to me to help me to decide to dump the Jabiru 2200.
Do you have any of other videos of your 701/viking project?
I don't think viking has photoguides, drawings, or documentation, so I'll need all the help I can get. Maybe more will come with the engine, but they don't seem as far down the road as my Jabiru FFwd kit was. I'll be trying to sell that once I figure out the best places to advertise.
Steve, thanks very much. That video was very helpful. Do you happen to know if Viking corrected that engine mount problem for following 701 installations? That's a year and a half ago so I would hope its fixed. I dont want to get as far down the road as you did and realize that I have to send it back.
With the corrected part did it require further modification of the upper channel or other parts? Bob
Steve, minmal help from grandkids so far. Did you get my request for possible pictures of a 701 or 750 viking engine mount/firewall installation? Just have the mount ; no drawings or video of where to cut, how to add back strength, etc. Bolt sockets (OD= 1 inch+) seem to overwhelm edge margin on the upper channel (18mm flange availabe). Bob

I started my 750 kit in October, 2011. I had planned on flying about now but in November 2012 I had rotary cuff surgery on my left shoulder. Then another surgery for the left rotary cuff. I was down for six months. I'm good to go now.

Steve your paint job is looking really good. I'm painting now and wish mine looked as good. You asked about the hole cutter. It's just a piece of 3/16 drill rod (probably from a broken drill bit) and the tip was ground like the tool you'd use in a boring bar in a lathe. The vacuum method wasn't mine. I found that in an EAA builders artical. I bent one wing tip before I learned about it, but after learning this method a redid the one I did without it. It provides lots of control and it's easy to do. Keep up the work, looks like you'll be flying soon.

I have something like 60-70 hrs on the engine now. (I don't keep real close track on that) The weight and balance came out very good, no problems at all.
I took the slatys off, so your cruse might be slower than mine.
If I can ever remember to take a pad with me, I will get some numbers for you .
Something like 85 mph at 5000 rpm. It will go a lot faster, but at a cost for fuel.
Good luck with your first flight, if everything goes well you will love it.

Thanks for that information. I have heard similar from others. Since I am retrofitting, it may become necessary to do as you suggest. I have the doors, and of course the finished aircraft....they have just not yet been together in the same locations for a checkfit :-)

As an after thought, he has said that he was having trouble getting the gears for the re-drive from the manufactor.
