Robert,
Thanks for the info. Your dies are a thing of beauty. I take it the flat sides allow the die to rest between the spar flanges. Glad you posted this. Otherwise I would have had to make two trips to my brothers shop to borrow his lathe and bridgeport. I appreciate the heads up on the .65 hole size on the spar. I was considering going that way but will go ahead and make both sizes. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

Thank Robert... that sure helps a lot. Lots of good info on this site, sometimes too much.

Thanks again, and you have a good weekend... have to finish my flaperon ribs. I found these parts to be very annoying to make and time consumming... took lomger then expected, but I'm almost done... Ron

Bob, thank's for your kind words. Yes I did roll the dies, however if I were to do it over, I would make a little change. The plans state that the holes in the spar should be .51, but there is a mention for scratch builders, that it can also be done with the regular .65 size hole. This is what I did, but in retrospect using the .65, does not really leave much metal around the hole. I recently purchased the necessary aluminum blank's and will have a buddy of mine, fab another die for me in the smaller size.

See one of my blogs called " Birthday Gift " for details on my dies

regards
Robert

Robert,
Thanks for posting this. I'm just finishing my forms the stab and elevator and it's nice to have a preview of parts to come. Really nice work. Did you roll your own flanging dies?

Ron,
I have the exact same edition & revision as you have.

The ZInc chromate can be purchased from " PLasti-Cote " and also from " Duplicolor ". Personally I prefer the nozzle, and spray patern of the Duplicolor'

The numbers are as follows
Plasti-Cote Green=1249, Yellow=1248
Duplicolor Green= 1690, & Yellow=1691
Both of these can be purchased form your local " Auto-Parts " supplier, however, don't even think of ordering online, since it is considered HazMat, and most carriers won't handle it.

Thanks Robert, did not know that Zinc Chromate came in different colours! Do you buy it local or order online?

Also I just found out that I have an old set of drawings... 5th edition, revision 6... 04/06! There are some changes in the most latest revision 7... 11/2008 that I have to update on mine. Like the rudder is now 0.032, which is a surprise!
Which version are you working with 6 or 7...? I don't konw if I should acquire the updated version 7!

Keep up the good work... Ron

Ron,

Yes, I use zinc chromate in green or yellow, depending on where it is to be applied

Hey Robert...

Good looking 701 elevator... I knew that you could do. Which corrosion protection do you use... I assume that is the sort of green primer on the parts?

The elevator is for my 701, although I did fabricate, and assemble the parts in the same manner as is seen in the 750.
