Apreciados compañeros.

Slats

Just finished making the 4 slats and had the unpleasant task of rejecting 1 outboard slat due to dissimilar profile to the other 3. De- riveted and made up 3 new ribs to reassemble. The cause of the problem was the nose of the ribs were not fitted 100% correct so when all is done and riveted the resulting curve profile is different to the mating slat, ie you cant get the 2 slats, inboard and outboard to slide together. So tip to fellow scratch builders doing slats is make absolutely sure the…

Tail Section Complete

Elevator Completed. Now I will take it apart for deburring and prime. EAA advisor came out and looked at the tail section and said everything looks good. No concerns at all. Clearly he did not look close enough. :)  I am going to put the final rivets in this week. The fuse kit will be here next week.

Zenith STOL CH 701 Air Drops help African communities grow...

Those who know what we do will remember that we are authorised to drop health education materials to rural communities using our specially modified, Rotax 912iS powered, STOL CH 701 aircraft.  As part of this we made the first ever aerial supply drops into the Afram…

*Long* X-Country

Did a long cross-country on Saturday. It was a 300NM flight, taking 5 hours of time (including touch and gos, ect). 19.5 gallons burned.

Landed at four airports that were new to me and to the 7-Oh-Fun.

That leaves only 11 public airports in Western Washington that I have not landed the 701 at.

FUSE KIT

Headed to the EAA meeting tonight to arrange for and advisor come out and bless my tail section before I rivet the skins. The fuse kit is supposed to ship on the 25th. I need to make room. I wonder how tail heavy my flightstar would be with a Zeith tail section? I cant help myself it is soooo shiny. Boy i sure like shiny.

Research and Results for Fuel Supply Solutions Rotax 912iS

Finally we have reached the point where we consider that we have expressed how we have established our fuel system for the 912iS in our test bed CH701.  No, it does not contain all that we wanted to, but we feel that it conveys the points about what we have done, why we have done it and what we would prefer to do.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE the engine and the airframe combination.  It is a great airframe and a great engine.  A marriage of heavenly proportions, for us and what we use…

750 Drawing Errors

Attention 750 scratch builders. There are some drawing errors that I want to point out to save you the grief of making usless parts. Four of them are in the baggage panels: F-5-4, F-5-5, F-6-2, and F-6-3. The projected views are backwards. There is a good illustration of these parts on FX-1 you can check before you bend. One other is in the fwd fuse F-11-6 which is also backwards. page FA-4 shows which way to bend it.

Coast Guard 801 sold at Sun-n-Fun

Well... after much thought, I sold my 801 (Coast Guard paint scheme). I need the money to build a house but still have a Cherokee to fly. :-)  It has a new, happy owner that will take care of it. Thanks to all, have fun & most of all be safe.

flying my 750 without slats

After reading about others taking their slats off on this web site I decided to try it. I have to say I am very happy with the results. I have my own air strip. It is 1000' with power lines at both ends. It makes it a challange to land. especially since I am a new pilot. It seems to be just as easy to land without the slats. I have mounted the stolspeed VG's.The cruise speed did increase 6 to 8 kts. just as the posts claimed. But what I like most is the attitude of the plane at cruise speed.…

Looking for Zenair Flyers in New York and New Jersey

Hi fellow Zenair Pilots

I just moved to the New York City and I am looking for fellow ZENAIR pilots and builders in the area.

Planning to have my 701 shipped from Europe back to the U.S. and I am looking for an all-year tie down spot around NYC City or in New Jersey - grass strip would also be fine.

Any tips welcome - thanks for your inputs and hope to see you soon up in the air.

Engine Update

So here are the facts:

1) My engine is back together and the plane is flying again

2) The only parts replaced were CHT probes, seals, gaskets and overflow bottle.

3) Compression is 86,86,86,85

4) Full root cause is still not fully known.

Between myself and my Rotax guru A&P we have a probable cause:

1) A near gross load reduced climb & cooling performance allowing for increases in coolant and oil temps.

2) The…

Stuck, stuck, stuck and frustrated

I'm really frustrated by the lack of instructions on where and when and how to install antennas. I understand that Zenith can't predict what equipment everybody wants to install but a basic guide to where and how to install an ELT, transponder and COM antenna would be nice. Without such a thing, I am stuck, stuck, stuck.

I was getting ready to rivet the fuse parts together when I realised that if I do that I can't easily get behind the baggage back to put things there. So I've…

Drag and Weight Reduction

Go Kart wheels work well for these 701s both on grass and paved runway. These plus slats off for wings (as in the first picture) and spring coil in place of door strut contribute to more economic in-flight fuel consumption.…
