Steel Bungee Modification

I just finished installing the Viking steel spring bungee mod in my CH750  Edition I  project which is nearly 80 percent completed.   Although it took me longer than I expected, I am happy with the modification and glad I took the time to add the mod.  Here is a rundown on my installation experience.

The engine was installed (C90) before the mod and the firewall well populated with components, nevertheless, the changeover was not difficult.  However, I did…

CH750 Cruzer "Gift of Wings" - Getting Started

I'm not sure how often this blog will be updated, however I'd like to use this space to provide some updates on my involvement in the EAA Chapter 245 (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) "Gift of Wings" build project.

Some background info...  In 2015, EAA announced a plan to provide to qualifying EAA Chapters a set of wings, a Gift of Wings, to encourage the chapter to build an aircraft and subsequently use that aircraft to promote aviation.  What a great idea!

EAA Chapter…

Best wishes to you all!

Hello everyone (again) just checking in to let you know my advance since Feb 2015 (almosr a year!) Wow! I have my rudder, rear fuselage and firewall finished; about to round up forward fuselage ready to join rear fuselage; I have been a bit busy at work, but slow advance mainly responds to the fact I have been enjoying myself (no stress) with no particular finish date. Just sharing in case any body else is going slowly, dont worry...be happy! and have a wonderful 2016. My best wishes to you all… Continue

I was lucky enough to have been a part of a special day yesterday (Saturday  2nd of January) when on his sixteenth birthday, Ross Brodie flew solo for the first time. more than that he flew sixteen different aircraft in the course of the day including (to keep on topic) my CH701. it was a special day with many well wishers present at Rangitata island airfield here in New Zealand, an impressive effort from a class act young man.

I wrote this Christmas Eve

Twas the night before Christmas 47 years past

There were hushed voices in the Houston MCC,

All were deliberate and none too fast

I sat at my console next the rest of the Flight Dynamics Team

There on the front row which we affectionately called the Trench

As I sat there studying things like propellant loads, number of jetts for ullage to settle the fuel, etc.,

I formulated the crew’s way home

I then gave my inputs to the computer operator 2 floors below…

The iPad, iLevil, and I... er, Me.

This Week I installed an iLevil AW unit which provides pitot-statically driven AHRS information, GPS, and ads-b to the iPad.

Some may view it as a frivolous expense, but here's why I felt it was worth it:

  • Attitude Indicator-  I concluded that an attitude indicator was essential after an accidental albeit brief encounter with IFR conditions.  I didn't want to add the weight and complexity of a vacuum system and found that electric attitude gyro's are ridiculously expensive…

Looking for a PILOT OPERATING HANDBOOK

I have the CH601-XL, with the 0-200 Lycoming, and the 3 blade ground variable warp drive prop.  I am looking for a POH from someone with a similar build.

I have all the original test flight results so I can taylor the book to my aircraft, however I do not know where to begin, so any help is appreciated

I recently visited Bob B in Arizona to perform the first flight of his Zenith STOL CH 701.

Below are a couple videos of me inspecting and test flying this new customer-built STOL CH 701 from a Zenith kit. I hope you find them useful.

Jabiru Cyl Head Inspecton Jsl 014-2

Hello all,  I am working through my annual and did the inspection as outlined in JSL 014-2.  It has you look for signs of overheating in Section 5.3.  I have had good compression and really no problems.  I have been flying for about 350 hours and the engine runs fine.  But I did have overheat signs near the exhaust valve.  See pic I talked to Pete at Jabiru, and I decided to…

Update

Seems slow around here so here's some pics and an update. Decided not to run my lines in center channel. They'll go up to center console and fuel valve from where they exit from front seat support.  Took an idea from John Austin about shaping a washer to fit in the corner of upright support and longeron, then sandwiched with a full size washer. ..sturdy. I have some adel clamps ordered but I'm impressed with the zip tie holders...They stick!! Package claims 40lbs of holding force!  Used…

Project finished

I have not added for a long time, but my Zodiac is completed, has an airworthy certificate and has flown 4 times for a total of 3 hours. The first test flights led us to change the angle on the horizontal stabilizer, work on the nose gear bushings, enlarge the cowl openings for cooling, and add some trim to the right side of the rudder. The Corvair engine and Warp drive prop have performed flawlessly.
