4 Years In

This week marked the 4th anniversary of that first snip into the metal of the rudder kit. I now have 340 hours into the project, only managed 53 last year thanks to 10 weeks of airport resurfacing that robbed me of hangar access during the best months of the year. But what I lacked in hours I made up for in dollars, lol - the purchase of the Rotax 912ULS added quite a bit to the rolling total. I think it will be worth it though.

It really is starting to look like I am near the…

Bob McDonald Is Alive & Well :>)

Thank you for your concern... I am alive and still kicking :>)
I kind of stepped away from all my normal activities (except work) last October when my father "Robert Bruce McDonald" was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gerhig's) disease.
At 85 yrs. the progression of this disease was very rapid. He was unable to walk after Jan.2014, and almost totally paralyzed and unable to speak by May 2014. He passed away June 07, 2014 aged 86 yrs.
His only request was to stay…

On to the next step.

I finished my flaperons tonight.  I was not looking forward to these, but found them very easy to scratch build.  First one took the longest and it got faster after that.  I logged 6.5 hours from cutting the skin out to having the part finished.

Now its on to the spars...... hoping I only have to build 2.

Fire Proof Steering Rod Boots

I posted some photos of my rubber steering rod boots a day or two ago, and it has drawn criticism for not being fire proof.. Good point.. I am trying to retain the rubber boots since they seem to seal well against carbon monoxide entry into the cabin, but I will have to see if I can come up with a way of keeping heat from a fire from getting to them. Or at least, retard the heat long enough to get the aircraft on the ground. I am going to start my further development by testing some scrap…

Changing tube on 601XL-B

I am having difficulty getting my new tube settled into the 2 Grove Rims. Does anyone have advice or better yet pics on proper methods to change the tube on my main tire?  My valve stem sticks out too far, and rubs on the wheel skirt brace. I wish there was a builders video or You Tube shot on doing…

The photo assembly guide shows quite a bit of detail on installation of the rudder, but no information on installing the stabilizer. I also have John Croke's dvd's...but no info there either.. Does anyone know of a source of information on this subject?

Still working

Still working on the tail end. I should be riveting the stab closed soon. I will also be working on the fiberglass tail tip. Per instructions I will not be riveting those on until it is time to attach the stab to the fuselage.

Lift hooks

I wanted everyone to see the lift hooks I installed on a 750

Not made from any plans ,and I didn't do any engineering on the material thickness , I just knew I wanted I thinker than the material in the upper spar carry though . I figure if it was thicker than that I would be more than enough

You wouldn't need then that often , but they would be handy

I just bent up some 1/8 4130 around the with of the front spar attachment point on the fuse and bought a forged eyelet from a… Continue
