Flying gas caps and no fuel flow

We lost a gas cap on the 601 I use for training.  Don't ask.  It is one of the new flush type with little handle that locks it down. No problem, both zenair and AS carry new ones and in a few days we…Continue

I have a newer 110 Viking and have been running a 50% avgas, 50% high test. I am using avgas because I found 8 barrels of it for free. I know it's terrible crap but it was FREE. It works fine in my…Continue

Flying gas caps and no fuel flow

We lost a gas cap on the 601 I use for training.  Don't ask.  It is one of the new flush type with little handle that locks it down. No problem, both zenair and AS carry new ones and in a few days we had one.  Installed and for the next couple of flights that tank would not feed. I did a flow check, all good. Turns out the new cap was not adjusted so it made a tight seal andthe amount of "suction" off the top of the wing was enough to overcome the vent and not allow fuel to gravity flow to the…See More

Avgas

I have a newer 110 Viking and have been running a 50% avgas, 50% high test. I am using avgas because I found 8 barrels of it for free. I know it's terrible crap but it was FREE. It works fine in my Lycoming. After 100 or so hours on it I lost compression on the center two cylinders. Jan suggested Marvel Mystery Oil but it is running too badly to fly so I pulled the engine and the head off and will get the valves lapped. Lead deposits on the valve seats caused the leak. The cylinders are…See More

Cold air coming in from the center console

I have an older 601 with the stiff legs.I am getting significant air into the area under the seat and rear fuselage. I installed a small scoop at the back under the tail and built covers for the gear box.All the holes under the belly have been scooped with a punch so they draw air out. There is enough air pressure that makes the stick boot puff up like a balloon. Any suggestions where all the cold air is coming in?RaySee More
