Yes, those darned Corvair engines quit when they run out of fuel.  What's up with that!?

According to NTSB Identification: WPR11LA199, the aircraft had ample fuel onboard for the planned flight.  It was also noted that the first responders observed fuel leaking from the tanks.  Lack of onboard fuel does not seem to be a contributing factor.

not only corvair, also continental,lycoming,teledyne,rotax,jabiru,eggenfeller, and even my very own car,

isn"t it weir ??? they all seem to need gas to keep running ??

My bad, it was a 701 not a 750, my memory really is going......

 

I blogged about it last week, mostly because I was astounded by the 5-blade propeller the builder had put on it: 701 incident post

great report and video by William. I will play arm chair investigator on one photo. The cowl photo clearly shows a rotational scrape indicating to me that the prop was turning at the time of impact. Not significant at all to the cause. I was shocked to see the battery inside the cockpit and the rats nest of wiring. William was too kind on both of these points. "aim higher" is the understatement of the day.

Prolonged decent at very low fuel level.

Pitch down causes fuel to move to front of tank below fuel outlet.

Flight time equal fuel in lines divided by burn rate.
