These classifieds are extremely frustrating because no one has any idea that the item sold long ago.  Why can't people go back and remove their listing, or post SOLD in the title?  Is there a moderator of this classified forum who can remove old ads?

I feel the same way as you. Maybe ZAC can set up an auto delete feature which would delete posts in the Classified section after say 30 days. Then it would be the responsibility of the post owner to repost if item does not sale.

+1

I'm not sure deleting would be desirable. Perhaps archiving into an archive folder might make more sense. These posts might be all someone has to trace the history of an airplane they bought or are considering buying.

Doug,

I put a permanent "Featured Discussion" at the top of the Classifieds asking builders to edit their ad's title and add "SOLD" when an item sells, but it seems the minority are thoughtful enough to do this. In general, it is preferable to add the "SOLD" rather than delete the ad if it has any pricing information as it provides at least some range of asking or selling prices to guide others in the future.

I am the moderator for all the forums but do not want to remove old ads - it would be tedious to search through them and I don't want to remove an ad, although old, for an unsold item. You would be surprised how often someone searches and finds an old ad and the item has never sold and they subsequently buy it!

ZAC does not actively manage these forums ... they pay the bills and advertise, but they want hands-off as far as content - they want the builders to manage that. It is a bit of awkward arrangement, however, logistically. ZAC doesn't have a website manager, they use "Ning" software and I don't actually know who originally set up the site's format, but I use Sebastien as a contact for problems concerning the site. As moderator, I have software permissions that let me edit to a limited extent - edit, delete, etc. - but I can't change the fundamental design of the site.

As for me, I was "volunteered" by Sebastien to moderate the site. My efforts are strictly voluntary and I get paid only with marvelous friendships with other builders and fliers and occasionally my "pay" is lowered by gripes and problems, but overall it's a rewarding experience. I have asked before that if  anyone would like to become a volunteer moderator for any specific site - Classifieds, 701, 750, Cruzer, 801, 601/650, contact me and we'll work it out!

Thanks for your active participation in the Zenith.aero forums!
