Great info. I have purchased a build log from Aircraft Spruce.
My only thought remaining was whether photos brought up from my iPad would be ok. I have sent an email to my local FSDO concerning that. Thanks again for the advice.

Doesn't matter where the photos are hosted. However, if they are online, you better have WiFi in your hangar to be able to show the inspector the photos!!

Actually, my photos in my photo app on iPad don't require wifi once they've been uploaded. Thanks for the reply though.

My Zenith is my second airplane build using Kitlog.  Couldn't be easier and its all done on line...takes less than 5 minutes each time you work and you can add up to 3 pics for each entry.  When done, print it out and you have an amazing document that includes all the pics.  DAR's love it!!!   http://kitlog.com/

I'm using Kitlog also and agree.  My only real issue is that it is not being maintained and in my case some of the Windows updates break it.  I had to revert to an earlier Windows restore point to get it working again.  That being said, it is just what I was looking for in terms of a build log program.

Steve....I have never had a problem but make sure you do the database back-up every week or so...on a thumb drive, not your pc.

I kept a large format calendar on the wall in my shop. Wrote down the hours worked each day and what components I was working on. Also took lots of pictures. For my inspection, I made up a three minute PowerPoint slide show on the process. My DAR flipped through the calendars, maybe 20 seconds, and watched the slide show. He seemed more interested in seeing that I had all of the paperwork in order.

Any App developers out there?  This is an area that is crying to be brought into the 21st century.  Kitlog definitely feels about 20 years out of date. 

I would think we could have an app that you could put on your phone that would enable you to take a picture, record a voice to text description, and use a time and date stamp, and group them all together into one folder.  Super simple and easy to use. I just don't have any idea how to program that.

I'm using appsheet.com for exactly what you describe. super easy to connect it to google spreadsheet . I just tap to start an entry for the day, type in what I did and how much time, tap to take up to 4 pics and tap save. It saves to my spreadsheet on Google drive and totals time/money spent etc. No coding involved. Super easy.

Only problem with that is you have to "agree" to allow access to all your contacts and files...
