having trouble with root skin fitting any tips or tricks?
Tags:
I have not dealt with this kind of fitup on my plane yet, but I would probably make a paper template and work with that until I got the fitup I wanted. Then transfer that shape to a sheet of aluminum.
Hi Thomas, That is a tricky area.... I cut my root skin slightly oversized, test fit for best positioning, then clecoed it to the bottom skin. This left an overlap on the outboard side that I carefully trimmed and filed a few millimeters at a time until I was happy with the fit. Take your time and make small adjustments. I used duct tape on the top to hold everthing in place while measuring and marking my next cuts and removed the part each time to make adjustments. Took about a dozen times to get it looking decent. I still ended up with a gap, but I'm somewhat happy with the results.
Nice job Clint
Hi Clnt,
I am curious about the rack you have attached to your wall in the background. Where did you get that?
Hi Damon, It is part of a composite deck railing kit, I cannot recall the manufacturer. Found some on clearance about ten years ago at home depot and bought it to hang RC airplane parts on, now it holds drill bits and levels. It is not very sturdy but works well if you limit each shelf to a few pounds or less.
ok thanks.tom.
