Online Community of Zenith Builders and Flyers
Two of my exhaust flanges are too pitted and warped to be repaired, and after pricing stubs on ACS ($89.75 ) and also bare flanges ($13.50) I started looking around to see what I could use. Being a former air cooled VW/ Porsche mechanic I have lots of VW parts around and discovered that the exhaust flanges are the exact same size as the Continental, in inside diameter, stud hole center to center and stud hole diameter. Go figure. So, if you are building an exhaust system, like I am, and need some flanges or stubs, cutting them off of old air cooled VW mufflers or heat exchangers may be a cheaper option. The flanges are also thicker, therefore less likely to warp. Just FYI.

I’m building my exhaust for my o200 so I am very interested in your progress. Please keep us posted!
Steven,
I don't know if the A65 and O200 have the same size exhaust flanges or not. When I rebuilt the engine I used a gasket set from Fresno Air Parts and everything else fit but the exhaust flange gaskets were a little larger, enough that the sealing part just barely caught the flange. I ended up using VW exhaust flange gaskets, which fit perfectly. I'm wondering now if the gasket set was supposed to fit an O200 as well as the A series. Anyway, just a heads up, the flanges on the O200 may not be the same size as the A65. I did finish the two exhausts, kind of a Y pipe on both sides, similar to what the Aeronca exhaust on ACS looks like. Just have to make a couple heat exchangers now.
