I am working on my cowl on my 750. I have the oil cooler baffled tight and the opening cut out at the top of the hole for it. I am going to put a 2 inch extension on the bottom lip. I have the generation 3 engine. Do I need to make an opening in the front to let air flow onto the front of the oil pan?

I’ve seen this on on here before. Looks great! So the original cooler isn’t enough to keep the oil cool? Do I understand correct that after the engine gets broke in that the oil temps will stabilize a little lower than at first?
The FWF kit came with a 7-row cooler and I upgraded it to a 10-row. That seemed to control the oil temps OK. However, some say that an aviation "air cooled engine" might derive as much as 25% of it's cooling from oil circulation. So, the cooler the oil the better ... within limits. Yes, both CHT's and oil temps will stabilize lower after break-in, but my cylinder head temps came down somewhat with the oil sump cooler - I run CHT's about 250F average in winter and 275F average in summer. Oil temp about 198-200.

Did you drill and tap the holes in the fins of the oil pan for the screws to mount the sump cooler?
No - the holes were already present.

Sounds good. I found pictures of this cooler from previous posts. I think I’ll do it too. Thanks.
