i have a continental o200 and am attaching Carb to the intake manifold and the intake has studs so the carb has regular nuts with it and some lock washers. would it be better to use the Nord Lock washer instead? dont want it to fall off. comments welcome

Hi John, I have not had any issues with the standard star washers loosening on mine so far, I put a dab of inspection lacquer on each of mine and inspect whenever I have the cowl off. I have nord locks on my prop and matco brakes, they are a fantastic locking mechanism. I'd have no reservations using them on the carb. The only downside I see is the cost, but they lock incredibly well.
Thanks Clint, this is my first build and after seeing how most things are either safety wired or a locking nut i just wasn't sure about such a important part. thanks again
No problem, I totally understand. I was apprehensive about using star washers until I talked with multiple A&P mechanics (who also inspected my plane prior to first flight), they assured me they would work fine. They were right! I've used them in all the standard locations, generator mounting, mag mounting, carb and airbox. At 2-3 cents per washer, I just toss them after one use. I recall nord locks are good for 10-12 uses, so I guess in reality they are not that much more expensive. If you are working on engine stuff you must be close to finishing! Good luck with the remainder of your project!
